Day 6: Back to work support.

seanfit1973

Today started with shaving and showering and taking the dog for a walk and then doing the normal routine stuff. I also wrote on the NHS weight loss website www.healthunlocked.com and broke down my meal for the day. It's a great site with so many wonderful people ready to support you in everything you do. Had some great advice and talked to some great people. I was even referred to a link that helped me to understand something about how insulin can hinder weight loss (healthunlocked.com/nhsweightloss/posts/private/141196665/when-weight-loss-is-a-struggle) through the body targeting insulin for energy instead of fat stores. It was a great article and gave me something to think about.

However, it was a full day and I also found that I had a sore throat and a cold, which progressively became worse as the day wore on, so the couch to 5k I was going to start today will have to wait for a while until I can shift this. I did, though, manage to not eat the numerous temptations thrown at us today in meetings and at break and lunch: toffees, biscuits, chocolates - and I did it all with a smile. I smiled when refusing because it is polite and because smiling releases endorphins, the feel good hormone and, if I'm already feeling good, I don't need a chocolate to feel better.

Later the tiredness kicked in, but thankfully the lasagne for dinner satiated my appetite, so this meant I didn't and still haven't eaten any real junk today apart from a packet of crisps with my lunch.

The moral, I think, is to find your support network and let them help you through the bad days and use those experiences to help others through theirs. It's nice knowing that there is always someone willing to listen and give advice and not put you down when you're already feeling a little crumbly. I also learnt that stressing over something that hasn't even happened (last night was particularly bad) can lead to cravings and depression...not something that blends well with weight loss and not eating crap.

So find your support network and use it, use it and use it again. Talk to people about how you are feeling and let people help you to your goal. It's your journey, yes, but that doesn't mean you have to face every part of it alone.

Thanks for reading and stay strong.

Sean.
