Well it feels like I have been away forever from this and from Healthunlocked.com, and although I am not going to go into where I have been or why I have been away, suffice it to say that it was essential that I was away and that it was a very stressful and demanding time in which my journey was put on hold and I gained 10lbs - I am now 12 stone 13lbs. I am completely ok with this and I know that I am now back to get rid of the weight I have put on over the last three weeks and I am looking forward to getting back on my journey and to share that all with those of you who want to read this.
Getting back on track today was exhausting, having had the break. Getting up and doing the exercise video was much worse than I anticipated, in terms of how hard it was. However, it was also extremely rewarding with the release of endorphins and that was a feeling I had not had in a while. I have also managed to double coat a wall in paint, wrack up over 13,000 steps and also do a couple of pull ups. I can't start running again yet, as the extra weight gained means that my knees won't hold up well if I start running again too soon and I don't want to injure myself too soon.
It has been far too hot to have done too much today, and by the looks of it, it will be to rainy over the next few days to do anything also, so I haven't picked the nicest of times to come back on to my journey. Maybe God will smile on me and have a break between the heat and the rain that will allow me to go out and walk the dog a few times to pick up that step count. I often wonder whether doing the steps incrementally isn't as good for me as I think it is and whether I should do most of them all at once to see any real terms benefit of doing so many steps. But at least I am out there walking and not sitting on my sofa feeling sorry for myself.
And now, sat on my bed with my wife beside me reading, writing this blog and wondering what other people have been up to and how people are doing on their own personal journey, I can't help but feel excited about the future. To get back to talking to friends I have made on this, to looking at how I have done during the day and what I will be doing tomorrow...
I have been reading a little about glycogen and insulin and how they regulate weight gain or loss. I hadn't really understood before that glycogen is needed to use fat to create energy, whilst insulin is used to repair muscles and that if your body can't switch between production of the two then you have to reduce your carbs for a while to get your body back to its optimal balance - so that it can switch easily between the two in order to ensure that you are burning fat for energy and not carbs or insulin. It's fascinating and something, I think, I am going to do a little more research on and then write a blog about.
So here I am. Back again reflecting on a, I feel, successful return to my journey and with an excitement and anticipation about the future and what it will bring. I am very busy at the moment, so blogs will probably be short reflections rather than long and drawn out narratives, but I am sure you won't mind. I am happy with my calorie consumption today and the micro nutrients I have had and hopefully this will continue. My goal is to get below 12 stones in 7 weeks - that's 2lbs a week. Achievable, I think.
Until tomorrow, stay strong and stay safe.
Thanks for reading.
