Day 190: Exercise.

seanfit1973

A short post today because I am very tired after a lot of exercising today. I feel great because of it but my muscles are still aching and I want to rest and sit with the wife for the evening, chilling and waiting for bed, knowing that I have a weigh in tomorrow and I am hoping I am less than I was last week. If I'm not I am going to be very thoroughly annoyed.

Today, in terms of exercise, I decided to see how much I could do in terms of running. I wanted to see whether or not I was as fit as I feel...and I feel very fit. As it turns out, I am fit but nowhere near as fit as I thought I was.

This morning I did one of the Team Body Project workouts - a boxing workout - and thoroughly enjoyed it. They aren't my favourite exercise videos, but they certainly give you a workout and I can definitely feel that the muscles in my arms have had a workout. Not so much cardio or lower body, but definitely arms.

Having done that, I decided to see how fit I was in terms of cardiovascular. It was during this that I found out that my watch is probably not great at measuring distances. I decided to see if I could still run a 5k. So going to the local park (which I thought would be deserted considering we are in lock down - how wrong I was!), I started Strava and my watch and started running. The first lap around the park I felt quite good and I was also going quite fast. I was encouraged my the fact that I had done the first half of the 5k without feeling much muscle fatigue.

However, the second lap was far worse and I had to work through it and be mentally strong to keep going. But keep going I did until my watch said 5.01km. I was elated and started to walk, got my phone from my pocket to stop Strava, only for it to tell me I had only done 4.4km...not the 5.1km my watch was telling me I had done. So, cursing under my breath, I began running again, hope that the 30 seconds walking would not be counted and, after a few more minutes, I finally finished with Strava telling me I had completed my 5k. It was a struggle, but I completed in in just over 30 minutes. Nowhere near my personal best of 19.48, but a good first step towards running again and I showed myself that I could still do it...no matter how hard the second half was.

I am sure that I will feel it in the morning, I have completed the 17,000 steps (with the steps of the run included), done an exercise video and run 5k today, so I think my rest is deserved and certainly I am hoping that I will have lost tomorrow when I weigh myself. I have also stuck to my calorie count during the week, so barring stepping on the scales with a 2kg weight, I can't see how I won't have lost tomorrow. But we'll see.

Motivation, drive and dedication as well as the support I have received have helped me through this journey, this process, and I am glad to be back on form. Now I am looking forward to my 7 mile walk tomorrow. No blog tomorrow, it's my official day off...so until Sunday, stay strong and stay safe.

Thanks for reading.

Sean.
