Day 18: Rest

seanfit1973

It seems I am only writing short posts recently. I've been lazy and not really giving myself time or motivation to write and keep tabs on my eating and exercise. But then I realised that doing all this takes time and energy and a mental awareness that makes you tired without you realising you're actually tired.

In fact, becoming healthy and leading a healthy life as a change to the life you used to live is even more tiring than I originally thought it would be. Watching what you eat, and resisting the things you don't; tryingnto eat the right things and eating less of what you shouldn't; trying to make sure you've done enough walking, or enough running or raising your heart beat to make sure it's raised enough to count as exercise...it all takes energy and time.

Then I realised that sometimes we need a break, a little time to ourselves where we can regroup, rest, relax. Obviously that doesn't mean a rest in terms of eating takeaway, drinking a shed load of beer and them finishing off with pounds of cheesecake and chocolate.

What I mean is I'm taking a break from watching what I eat. That sounds ominous, doesn't it? But by now I am beginning to know what I can and can't eat, what amounts I can have and what I should be doing exercise wise. So by having time off, I mean that I'm not consciously counting, putting it on an app, looking at the package to see the calories or micronutrients.

So now I realised that actually my short posts and little fails were my mind and body telling me to slow down and rest up a little. Take time away from watching everything I am doing and eating. So that's what I've been doing today.

I haven't overeaten, I haven't drank loads, I haven't eaten sweets until I want to throw up or consciously looked at every step I've taken (8786 steps...Fitbits are good).

Sometimes you just need to take a break and give your mind and body a rest. I want this to be a lifestyle change, so I can't make it a chore or so exhausting that I give up.

Instead we all need to rest and relax and take time off from watching every little detail so that we can become fully recharged and ready to keep going.

Enjoy a day off from macro watching.

Thanks for reading.

Stay strong.

Sean
