Day 139: Cleaning Exercise

seanfit1973

A short one tonight as I am incredibly warm and it is making me a little restless and sleepy at the same time. Not a good combination.

As the title of this blog asserts, today I have exercised quite a lot. This morning I did my regular exercises, the burpees killing me as they always do. However, I always come through the video feeling a lot better than I did when I started. When I first prepare the video I don't think that I have ever thought, "Wow, I really can't wait to do this." but always at the end I want to carry on and do more. I feel great and always feel like I could then go for a run. I feel even better once I am out the shower, I feel like I have started the day really well and I am energised for the rest of the day.

Nevertheless, the exercise didn't stop there for me today. We have two bathrooms in our house, both on the same floor and both needed cleaning. I was going to do one of them today and leave the other one for tomorrow. However, after I had finished the first one, I was in the zone and, although I was aching and sweating profusely, I decided to have a cup off tea and then do the other one.

To be fair, after sitting down and chatting to my wife, I really didn't feel like picking myself up off the chair and getting back on with cleaning another bathroom. But lift my bottom I did and, after another few hours, the bathroom was done and it was sparkling clean. I felt great that both bathrooms were extremely clean, that it had taken me all day to do (considering it was a deep clean of both) and, according to my fitness app, I had burned almost 700 calories doing it. So not only did I have a sense of pride at the work I'd done, not only did I have an adrenaline rush for exercising so much but I also burned 700 calories. I was, and still am, chuffed.

One thing that I have noticed since I finally decided to take this a little more seriously than I did when I started, is that the exercises I am doing is making me feel stronger and more energised than I have done in a long time. The endorphin high from exercising is invigorating and I constantly want more of it. The other benefit of taking this seriously and really sticking to the 1680 calories is that I have learnt to regulate what I eat throughout the day as well as becoming used to being hungry for set periods. My body and mind are becoming used to being hungry before lunch and before dinner, so that I can concentrate on something else rather than that feeling, which would normally make me eat something. Instead, with the talking to myself and the feeling being something which is regularly I my day (although how hungry I feel has diminished with each passing day) is something I can now almost dismiss from my mind as I am used to it and do not pander to it. I am in control of it now and that is a real breakthrough, I think.

So if I miss a morning of exercising one day because something comes up, I can always choose a room or rooms to clean and that will burn the calories I would normally have done during my morning exercises. I must admit, I am a aching a little tonight, but it is a nice ache, one that tells me that I have done a lot today and that I deserve the rest that comes with it this evening.

I am grateful for exercise, the endorphins it releases and the fact that I enjoy it makes it a triple crown. I hope that there has been something in your day today that has helped you in your journey.

Until tomorrow, stay strong and stay safe.

Thanks for reading.

Sean.
