Today I have decided to do things a little differently. Instead of going through my day and reflecting on the the things I did, I am going to look at my accomplishments and what they mean as a reflection of my commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle.
The first accomplishment of my day was to get up and do my exercises. It was TheBodyCoach's YouTube video called Turbo 20. It is something I am intending to do for the rest o fit week and it certainly gives you a work out. The good thing about this particular one is that it is low impact which, for me, is what I need as my knees are not what they used to be. I came away from it sweating like a trooper and feeling great. The other thing I like about exercising and working up a sweat is how good you feel after you have had a shower. You feel awake and relaxed at the same time. I will find another to do next week.
Accomplishment two was that I have eaten healthily all day (mostly). I did have a small chocolate bar and a cookie that my step daughter made, but mainly I have eaten well today. For breakfast I had a fat free bio-yoghurt with fruit, which tasted amazing. For lunch I had a ham sandwich on wholemeal bread filled with a variety of seeds. For dinner I had spaghetti and meatballs, made from whole foods and with the meatballs made from turkey mince. It was delicious. The cookies were for pudding and I did have a beer with it also, but only a single one (moderation is key).
I have also started chapter two of my novel and chapter one of another novel that, when I have been random writing, I enjoyed and so I thought I would start that also and see if anything comes of it. In terms of writing I have also written this tonight, even though I was struggling to think about the content earlier in the day. My writing is really coming on and I am beginning to enjoy doing it. There are times when it is a struggle to motivate yourself to do it, but then even elite athletes have days like this and therefore there is nothing wrong with not wanting to...so long as I still do!
Giving myself a little downtime has also been an accomplishment of my day. It is not often I watch television as I am more into reading that TV, but today I watched The Mandelorian (a show on Disney+ that I enjoy) and an episode of Swamp Thing (a DC comics character that is actually really interesting). So allowing. myself to have that time alone doing something I don't normally do was an accomplishment, I think.
My final accomplishment of the day was to take the dog for a long walk, giving myself another dose of exercise of the mind and body. The body aspect of dog walking is obvious, the mental stimulus came in the form of listening to a book called 'The Brain' on Audible. It's nice to walk and read at the same time without having to physically do any reading. So to do reading (I'd already read for an hour earlier in the day, I forgot about that) and walking at the same time is a double accomplishment - and my second piece of exercise for the day.
What does this mean in terms of a healthier lifestyle...that I am getting there. It may seem to me sometimes that I am not changing or not doing as much as I should in terms of trying to lead a healthier life, but when I look at it like this...I really am. So maybe looking at things differently will help in the long run too?
So now I am going to wind down with the wife and enjoy another session of reading and chatting with the wife. Hopefully I'll be able to go to bed and sleep well tonight, something I am struggling with.
Finally I want to say that I am grateful for YouTube for giving me the means to exercise every day. I am grateful for Audible, so that I can walk and read at the same time, without having to actually have a physical book in front of me. I am also grateful for Disney+, as the Mandelorian is a great series.
I hope that you are all noticing your own accomplishments and staying positive in this crazy time. Until tomorrow, stay safe and stay strong.
Thanks for reading.
Sean.
