Day 369: A New Lockdown.

seanfit1973

Well here we are again, in yet another lockdown. The last time we locked down, I lost a lot of weight, so I am hoping for good things this time. I must admit that, when the announcement came, my wife and I were sorely tempted to do the 'let's start next week' thing, ditch everything and eat rubbish and drink a lot of alcohol. Thankfully, we didn't, after realising that there is always going to be stressful things that happen in our lives and we have to now make sure that we are sticking to our guns no matter what stresses and strains are in out lives. If we give in at the first sign of things in our life going our way, we'll never lose the weight.

My wife, unlike me, has decided on weighing herself every day, as she likes seeing the little variations and fluctuations in her weight as the week goes on, whereas I am more of a 'see what it looks like at the end of the week' type of person. Either way is good, because this is a personal journey for everyone that takes it. My wife has her way...I have mine.

Apart from the lockdown, the day has pretty much panned out the same as yesterday. I have done my stretches and exercises, eaten healthily, no rubbish food or any alcohol, and work work work. I have finished my fourth book of the year, called Where the River Runs Gold by Sita Brahmachari, reflected on my day (well, that's what I am here for) and taken the dog for a walk, with another one later, which will take me up to over 10,000 steps.

Have I had cravings...of course. You don't indulge yourself as much as I have over the last four months, stop and not have cravings for the things you could normally have in whatever amount you would normally have them.

However, I have learnt from last time I started this that if I have one, I'll have another and another etc, until the day is lost. Which, obviously, is not the worst thing that could happen to me, but it certainly is not conducive with the way I want, and am trying to, lead my life now. I am not missing the alcohol as much as I thought that I would and I am certainly enjoying a better night's sleep for not having alcohol, so the pros out-weigh the cons. I am also eating lots of fruit and vegetables, which is not only filling me up, but also making me feel better in myself. Additionally, in order to make sure that the food I am eating doesn't get boring, I am eating and trying to really taste the food at the same time. In other words, I am taking my time chewing my food and taking note of the flavours that I am tasting. So far it is working really well.

The time constraints are still there, things you think will take you 20 minutes end up taking longer because of the prep and other extraneous add-ons, but I am getting better at managing my time, so this hasn't been a massive issue at the moment. Whether, as time goes on and the lockdown eases, this is still the case, I will deal with each issue as it arises. Until then...

I hope that this lockdown is easier for all you out there, at least we know what it is like from experience and there isn't a bunch of idiots buying up all the toilet rolls this time. Keep healthy, stay focused, exercise regularly and stay strong.

Until tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.

Sean.
